March 14, 2010, Jerusalem. IsraelPhones, a leading provider of cell phones and USB modems for visitors to Israel is proud to announce their support of the Shalva Running Team in the 2010 Jerusalem Half Marathon. Shalva, the premier center for providing innovative, tailored programs to special-needs children and their families will include a team of 180 participants from the Shalva community running 10 or 21 kilometer routes in order to raise awareness about Shalva’s work with special needs children. The marathon, scheduled to take place on March 18th in Israel’s capital, will feature a special 400 meter circuit has been designed for a team of Shalva youngsters; allowing Shalva's special needs-children and friends to take part in the marathon. IsraelPhones, is proud to support this important cause.
“Shalva is doing vital work on behalf of children with special needs,” said IsraelPhones CEO Akiva Tekuzener “We are delighted that IsraelPhones is able to give back to the community by supporting the important work of Shalva.”
In addition, IsraelPhones will be sending five people to participate in the Jerusalem marathon, now in its 18th year, along with the Shalva team. “I’ll be running with my son on the Shalva team,” said Jacob Sztokman, Marketing Director of IsraelPhones. “It’s one of the best ways I can think of to educate my children about caring for those who need our support.” IsraelPhones, which has offices in both New York and Israel as well as agents in the UK, Canada and Australia, is the largest cell phone rental company for tourists visiting the country.
“We are very grateful to IsraelPhones for demonstrating their support in such an important way,” said Shalva's Founder and Director, Kalmn Samuuels. He and his wife Malki, created the foundation in 1990, based on their own experience. Their son, Yossi, became irreversibly blind, deaf and severely hyperactive after receiving a tainted vaccine in 1977 at the age of 11 months.
Shalva provides services to more than 500 infants, children and young adults via a plethora of tailored programs and round-the-clock therapies, seven days a week. They also maintain two centers for special needs children and are currently building a new center in Jerusalem, to be opened in 2012. This facility - the new Shalva National Children’s Center - will be the largest of its kind in Israel, serving everyone on a first-come-first-serve basis regardless of ethnicity, religion, or ability to pay. All Shalva services are provided completely free of charge.
